Physical Activity
How do I find the time to be active?

It doesn’t take a lot to find just 30 minutes on most days to be active. Here are some easy ways to find the time:
- Organise a walking group at work, either walk in your lunch hour or after work for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Leave the car at home, and either walk, catch the bus, train or ferry to work. You’ll no doubt get some walking in as part of the journey. If you have to drive to work, park 15 minutes away, and you’ll get a 30 minute walk each day to and from the car.
- Take the stairs instead of the lift. This has the added benefit of avoiding elevator music.
- Stop emailing people in the office next door – walk around and see them!
- Try to limit the amount of time you spend sitting on the couch in front of the TV, or being on the computer. Get out and play with the kids or the dog!
- Do the ‘active’ housework, such as vacuuming and the gardening.
- Ride a bike, or walk to the shop to pick up the paper and milk.
- Walk to the local restaurant or café.
- When catching up with friends, choose an active social activity – such as a walk at the beach or park.
- Organise active outings for your family, such as bush walking.
